This year's Melbourne Fringe Festival’s Fringe Furniture exhibition will again be held at Abbotsford Convent from September 12 – 29.
Fringe Furniture is an annual showcase for everything from art objects, to experimental design, to production-ready pieces. It is a launching pad for emerging and independent designers, and a forum to test the boundaries of design for more established designers.
Aside from exhibiting their work to approx. 3000 visitors, participants have access to a Mentorship Program, professional development opportunities and several awards presented by design industry leaders. There is an initiative in place that reduces registration fees to female-identifying and non-binary artists, as well as grants available to those facing structural disadvantage.
Established as an experimental playground, Fringe Furniture is an exhibition of emerging and market-ready design and has provided a platform for artists and designers to exhibit their work for 33 years, making it one of the longest running design events in Australia.
