Simple Stool/Table
Reclaimed redgum
350 dia x 600mm
The idea for
this piece was to create a simple, attractive
item for sale in a gallery setting. It
had to be small enough to fit in a car
boot, so it can be purchased straight
from the gallery floor and taken home.
It had to be something everyone needed.
This table is what I feel people are looking
for, that plant in the corner, that nook
in the hall, the stool for the breakfast
bar, and the space nothing else fits in
or looks right. The style is Nouveau;
the shapes are repeated throughout my
work, timeless.
Constructed from solid redgum, offfcuts.
Leftovers of a bigger job milled in the
paddock, from a giant fallen tree down
the south east of SA. Recycled, reclaimed
timber. I have plans to put together some
additional stool/tables in other colours
and species.
The legs are solid timber shaped with
templates and a router, the top likewise.
The rails are pulled over a plug with
a vacuum bag and laminated into a curve.
The table/stool is held together by epoxy
adhesive, and this prototype utilises
mitred biscuit plate joints, but I have
some other ideas for the next one.
Finish is obtained by a mixture of oils
applied quite a number of times, I lost
track at around five, but kept going till
it looked right.
