Anton Gerner, Hawthorn, Victoria

Concept
A simple cabinet or sideboard unit which was designed to feature the beautiful quilted myrtle veneer which I had, while providing useful storage. Combined with the blackbean details this piece has simple, yet interesting features such as three-way mitre joints, inlays and custom made bronze handles. The cabinet is a solid form that is supported by thin blackbean sticks to elevate it from the floor. The doors are hinged with solid brass knife hinges.

Materials
The quilted myrtle veneer sourced from my veneer stockpile which I have collected for years. The veneers were layed on FSC certified poplar blockboard.

Joinery
Mostly domino, mortise and tenons.

Glues
AVXL Plus PVA
Garrett Wade 202GF

Finishes
Becker Acroma DM307-40% clear
