Tasmanian blackwood
Joinery
The base supports are laminations made
from seven shaped strips of pine glued
together and shaped. After sanding I applied
figured blackwood to the faces.
To make the solid edgings I made a jig
and routered 10mm blackwood strips that
were sawn with a 2mm allowance on either
side. After the strips were glued this
was trimmed with a flush trimmer router
bit. There are two curved supports and
these were joined with a piece of solid
blackwood. The top is made from bookmatched
solid blackwood.
Glues
PVA for the veneers, Techno glue and urea
formaldehyde for the joinery.
Finishes
Two coats of sanding sealer, top coats
of gloss lacquer (I don’t know how
many). After that I used cutting compound
and after that car glaze (not with carnauba
base).
