Derwent Box
All the materials
for this box were collected from the Derwent
River on Father’s Day, 2004. They
have been thrown together by the force
of nature, and only on this day, maybe
even for only a few hours, will these
elements be together. I see this box as
a true representation of that one day.
I have been making boxes like these for
six years, including a few months in London
working with timber salvaged from the
Thames. I ran a stall at Hobart’s
Salamanca Market for about three years
and sold boxes to all corners of the globe. |
