Rocking Dragon
‘Made from
northern silky oak salvaged from garage
doors of a beautiful old mansion in Toowoomba.
It was being pulled down to make way for
a ten storey apartment block and I got
three sets of double doors for $20 plus
the effort of unscrewing them before the
bulldozer arrived. There were numerous
nail and bolt holes to contend with, many
coats of paint and some white fungus in
the open grained timber. This timber has
been recycled into many items and fittings
in our house and I still have much more
left!
‘The dragon
was made for my son’s recent first
birthday. It is based on a Viking longboat
and traditional Celtic designs to reflect
his heritage.’
