‘The material
for this piece came from the bins of a
sawmill that makes spotted gum flooring.
Each day over three cubic metres are binned
and the company has to pay to have them
removed, to then be burnt as firewood.
The company is very keen to see the waste
used in a value-added application.
‘The design
for this piece came out of the desire
to exploit the size of the pieces of timber
by making something that could only be
made from small pieces. It is a lovely
piece to walk around now it is finished
as you follow the shape upwards as you
go. The view through the lattice changes
too.’ |
