James Harris
Mooroolbark, Vic

‘All materials were sourced from fallen limbs or rescued from becoming firewood. Each of the chair backs feature timbers that are from special places to me and are displayed as a reminder to me. These range from local leptospermum bulldozed from the last local swamp to make way for housing, a small curved piece redgum from a tree removed to make way for a new bridge, pieces of pink gum from my brother’s farm and coastal ti-tree collected while on holiday with friends.’

‘The seat is from a forest red gum sapling removed during road renovations in the Cobram Forest along the River Murray. Other timbers are sourced from tree tops left in windrows for burning at logging coups in the Toolangi State Forest.’

‘All materials were rescued from becoming firewood.’
