Fillings in
the old gum
redgum, old gold dental fillings
‘The redgum
came from three sources: an old fallen
tree, a sleeper path at Kingswood golf
club and some old fence posts. After milling
the sleepers into narrower boards, I glued
and clamped them together in successive
pairs until the tabletop was complete.
After lots of planing and sanding there
were still defects in the surface due
to the faults in the redgum. These I filled
with a clear acrylic into which I embedded
some old gold dental fillings which I
had collected in my dental practice. I
simply flattened these with a hammer prior
to sinking them into the acrylic.’ |
