Triangular Pen
Box and Pen
NZ kauri, ancient redgum
176 x 76 x 69mm h
This pen box
and pen is from a limited run of three
units. I made two units as expressions
of appreciation, one for my wife of 46
years, and one for the person who has
given generously of his time encouraging
me from the beginning of my woodworking
journey.
The design came from my desire to create
a very distinctive box combining two very
special timbers. These timbers are 45,000
year old New Zealand kauri and 5,000 year
old ancient redgum from Australia. A pen
maker colleague made the pens for me from
ancient redgum. The pen rests in a suede
sling.
As I wanted to put something of myself
into these very special boxes, all of
the angles were hand cut and planed.
I used epoxy resin on these boxes.
The boxes are finished in shellac and
wax.
