Bruce Edgar Greentree, Quirindi, NSW

A lockable jewellery box made of kiln dried birdseye river redgum. The timber was sourced from Cockatoo Creek Timbers, Dundurrabin, via Dorrigo NSW. The concept of the project was to construct a useful box, by hand, using natural Australian timber.
I understand the river redgum grew on the banks of the Namoi River in North Western NSW and that the death of the timber was believed to have been caused by the extensive use of agricultural chemicals in the area.
The top left hand front edge of the box incorporates a rippled natural feature of the timber.
The box is constructed by hand with hand-made dovetails.

Glue: Garrett Wade 202 GF.

Finish: Danish oil.
The top and bottom trays measure 345 x 200 x 30mm.
The bottom tray has five compartments for bangles and necklaces. The top tray holds eighteen rings (nine each end) in two removable compartments. Each 40mm wide plus twelve compartments for other assorted items. Below the bottom tray there is a clearance of 40mm for extra storage.
The right hand rear foot has a 90 degree movement security key recess.
