Red Gum in the
Moonlight
Redgum (Eucalyptus tereticornis),
Huon pine, woolly butt (Eucalyptus
longifolia), abalone shell, brass
220 x 150 x 70mm, cavity 150 x 70 X 25mm
deep
Materials:
Method: chisel carved
Finish: shellac
Concept:
To display various ways of seeing: into,
at, through, under, and within the uncarved
block.
The block has two doors, each hinged by
a brass rod travelling through a brass
tube set into the wood.
Each door reveals a scene: on the door,
behind the door, through the block, to
the inside of the other door, or simply
through the block itself which is hinged
to reveal a concealed cavity below, measuring
150 x 70 x 25 deep, ‘the box’.
The scenes inside the box are: the full
moon, a wave, a tree, various chickens.
