Renata Carmichael, Penguin, TAS

Materials:
Sassafras scraps (removed from bin after a woodskills class making steam-bent shaker-style boxes), plywood (from same bin), bamboo.
Method of Construction: Sides were cut to a desirable shape, utilizing the curve already cut into some of the pieces, then the sides of the lid were shaped to fit the curve. End pieces were cut and the box was assembled using butt joints. Rails supporting the bottom were glued in, and the slats glued in place. Lengths of bamboo were glued across the lid, and later trimmed to length with a Japanese saw. The box was finished with walnut oil.
Glues:
PVA, possibly crosslinking but I can’t remember which bottle I picked up.
Finish:
walnut oil.
Concept:
I don’t like seeing wood wasted, so I rescue bits. Then I have to think of something to do with them.
