Renata Carmichael, Penguin, TAS

Method of Construction:
Detailed parts (legs and teeth), and the inside of the box are first carved with hand tools then joined to the body and lid. (All butt joints, not clamped because the shape did not allow it.) Once the glue dried I did the final shaping, and sanding, and fitted the hinge. Then the piece was finished with walnut oil.
Materials:
Huon pine, brass hinge
Glues:
PVA (regular aquadhere, the cross-linking PVA discoloured Huon when I tested it)
Finish:
walnut oil (simple, safe and attractive)
Concept:
I’m certain things wander around after people put them down. They’re often not where you are absolutely certain you left them. So I made a box that looks like it really could wander off.
