Autumn Leaves
and Hoe Box
‘My
jewellery box cabinet is made from figured
jarrah, acquired some time ago in Denmark,
WA. I had no plans for it at the time,
but the beautiful piece of fairly rare
wood dictated that it should be utilised
to the full.
‘As the
off-cut from Autumn Leaves sat on my bench
I noticed its similarity to a lady’s
shoe, hence the Shoe Box evolved. Due
to their common origin I felt they should
be entered together.
‘The lining
of the cabinet is silk felt that I make
especially to line my boxes. I make the
felt to match the theme of the boxes;
in this case I have used autumn tones.
‘The box
was made on the bandsaw, hand finished
and lacquered. Each drawer of Autumn Leaves
signifies the falling leaves in our forest
at this time of the year.' |
