Traditional
bookcase
Brazilian mahogany, Aust red cedar, kauri
pine, Tas myrtle
‘The
bookcase has four arch leadlight glass
doors and four drawers. The front of each
drawer features a cockbeaded surround
made from Australian cedar. The top of
the bookcase has a pelmet made of five
carvings in kauri pine to the front and
two at each end featuring flowers, leaves
and buds.
‘The
cedar was salvaged from the original Willow
Tree Post Office fittings. Willow Tree
is a village 17k south of Quirindi on
the New England Highway, NSW.
‘The kauri
pine was recycled from a meat safe from
Gaspard, also in the Quirindi area, dating
from the early 1900s. The drawers and
carved corbels were made to my own specifications
and mostly hand made. The bookcase was
French polished.’
